How big is the Binance APP desktop version?

Before downloading an app, check how much space it takes—this is a universal habit among phone users. As a full-featured exchange app, the Binance install package itself is not small—the Android APK is about 180MB, the iOS IPA is about 250MB, and the iPad version is about 280MB. After installation, with cache and databases added, actual usage can grow another full 100%. If your phone storage is tight, Binance also offers a Lite version and a web PWA version to choose from. This article quantifies the size, runtime usage, and cache growth rate of each platform version, so you can choose the most suitable version based on your device. Before downloading, we recommend checking the latest version number on the Binance Official Site first to ensure you get the latest install package. Android users can directly download the Binance Official App and find the APK entry on the page. Apple users can refer to the iOS Install Guide.

Install Package Size of Each Version

Android Version (APK)

The latest version of Binance-2.98.x.apk provided on the official site is about 180MB. Compared to three years ago (about 90MB), it has doubled, mainly because of added modules for futures, earn, Web3 wallet, Launchpool, and multiple image resource sets packaged for more screen resolutions. The Android APK contains three architectures: x86, arm64, and armv7. If you download from Google Play, Play will automatically trim to an AAB of about 120MB based on device CPU.

iOS Version (IPA)

The Binance app downloaded from the App Store shows as about 250MB. The iOS version is larger than Android because iOS's binary format (Mach-O) and resource packaging methods are different, and the same functionality takes more space on iOS. At the same time, the iOS version embeds Apple's WebKit framework-related resources.

iPad Version

iPad uses a universal IPA, but because it also packages resource sets for large screens, the actual size is about 280MB. If you use an iPad Pro 12.9-inch, it will also load higher-resolution image resources, and the first-launch memory usage after installation will be about 100MB more than iPhone.

Android Lite Version

Binance specifically released a Lite version for low-end devices, with an APK of only 38MB. The Lite version strips out advanced features like futures, Launchpool, and Web3 wallet, retaining only spot trading, market quotes, and asset viewing. Suitable for older Android 6-8 devices, or for users mainly in Africa and Southeast Asia where data traffic is expensive.

Desktop Version

The Windows desktop version is built on Electron, with an install package of about 120MB, and an installed footprint of about 380MB. The macOS desktop version (universal binary, supporting both Intel and Apple Silicon) is about 150MB, with about 420MB after installation. The desktop version is slightly smaller than the mobile app because it doesn't need to package multiple sets of mobile image resources.

PWA Progressive Web App

Strictly speaking, PWA is not an app but a shortcut that "installs" a web page to the home screen. It takes almost no space (less than 5MB cache), but functionally equivalent to m.binance.com mobile web. Suitable for users with extremely tight storage who don't want to use the Lite version.

Size Overview of Each Version

Version Install Package After Installation Runtime Memory Target Users
Android Full 180MB ~350MB 240MB Mainstream Android users
Android Lite 38MB ~65MB 90MB Low-end, old devices
iOS 250MB ~430MB 280MB iPhone users
iPad 280MB ~500MB 380MB iPad users
Windows Desktop 120MB ~380MB 350MB PC traders
macOS Desktop 150MB ~420MB 400MB Mac traders
PWA <5MB Browser cache Depends on browser Temporary use

Why Does Usage Grow After Installation

Cache and Logs

During runtime, the app caches historical K-lines, order records, and market push data locally for offline viewing. This data grows over time, typically adding 3 to 8MB per day. After half a year, the total cache may reach over 1GB.

Resource Decompression

The compressed resources (images, scripts, fonts) in APK and IPA are decompressed to the app data directory on first launch. This step directly doubles the footprint. For example, a 180MB APK might reach 280MB in the data directory after decompression.

Local Database

The Binance app has a built-in SQLite database that stores the user's watchlist, price alerts, trading history, and order records. For heavy users, the database file can grow to tens of MB.

Cache Cleaning Methods

Android: Settings → Apps → Binance → Storage → Clear Cache. Clearing cache won't affect your account and settings, only clearing local market history, which will be re-fetched from the server next time.

iOS: iOS doesn't open an entry for apps to proactively clear cache. Users can only clear it by "uninstalling and reinstalling the app." Fortunately, iOS 14 and later offers the "Offload App" option that keeps data.

Which Version to Use on Different Devices

Low-End Devices with Under 2GB RAM

Choose the Lite version or use PWA directly. The full version frequently gets killed by the system on machines with 2GB RAM, and opening the trading interface once can take more than 5 seconds.

Mid-Range Devices with 4GB RAM

You can install the full version, but we recommend closing apps other than background push to avoid memory pressure.

Mainstream Devices with 6GB+ RAM

Install the full version without hesitation for the smoothest experience. Futures, K-lines, and push notifications all have no bottlenecks.

Devices with Less Than 16GB Remaining Storage

If your phone has less than 16GB total remaining space, installing the full version will quickly eat up the remaining space (the app plus cache can take 2GB in half a year). In this case, we recommend first cleaning other apps, or directly using PWA.

Tablet and Desktop Users

iPad users install the iPad version; Windows/Mac users are recommended to use the desktop version, which is more stable than the web version and has dedicated shortcuts and multi-window support.

Why Does the App Size Keep Increasing

The Binance app size has been slowly growing every version, from 130MB in 2022 to 180MB in 2026, roughly increasing 10-15MB per year. The reasons are mainly threefold:

  1. New business modules are constantly being added (Web3 wallet, Copy Trading, Fan Token, etc.)
  2. Supported languages and localization resources keep growing (currently supporting 50+ languages)
  3. Multiple sets of image resources packaged for different screen sizes (@2x, @3x, @4x)

To control size growth, Binance started experimenting with an "on-demand download" mechanism in late 2025. Some low-frequency modules (such as NFT market) are not packaged into the main app but downloaded only when users first open them, which has slowed the main app's size growth.

FAQ

Is the Binance App Larger Than Huobi or OKX

2026 comparison data: Binance full version is about 180MB, OKX is about 210MB, Huobi is about 160MB. Binance is in the middle, not the largest.

Can I Switch to Lite After Installing the Full Version

Yes, but you need to uninstall the full version first and then download the Lite APK. The two cannot be installed simultaneously because they share the same package name.

Can Old iPads (iPad Air 2) Install It

The iPad version requires iPadOS 14 or higher. iPad Air 2 can only be upgraded to iPadOS 15, which is just enough. But the app will be sluggish when running, so we recommend using it only for viewing market quotes, not frequent trading.

What Should I Do About the App's Growing Footprint

Periodically clear cache (Android can clear directly, iOS can only uninstall and reinstall), and delete unused price alerts and excess watchlists, which can save hundreds of MB.

Should I Choose Desktop or Web Version

If you trade on PC long-term, the desktop version is better because it has an independent process and won't be occupied by browser tab memory. If you only use it occasionally, the web version is enough.

If you choose the right version and clean the cache well, the Binance app is actually not a space hog—with reasonable management, you can hold it under 500MB.
